CUSTOM SOLUTION EXAMPLES

Customer Type: Patient Handling OEM
Product/Application: Patient bed wheel lock that allows the table to be safely lifted off the ground
Design Challenge & Considerations: Customer’s original design was a two-piece solution that exhibited challenges with load at the seam of the lead screw and oversized journal
Thomson Solution: A 0.625” diameter x 0.100” lead screw with oversized journal as a single-piece construction. This component featured a more robust build to not only handle heavy loads but maximize lifecycle.
Result: The customer approved and ordered the unique design, solving its load issue

Customer Type: Industrial OEM
Product/Application: High-rise building window locks
Design Challenge & Considerations: In order to increase the smoothness of the window functionality and modernize the locking componentry, the customer sought to transition from frictional to rolling elements
Thomson Solution: A single-piece, aluminum, machined support rail with low height and overall compact size for the lock’s space-constrained location
Result: The 60 Case® rail allowed the customer to not only meet the lock design’s space constraints but provide a smoother motion for the windows

Customer Type: Industrial OEM
Product/Application: Train door movement
Design Challenge & Considerations: In order to properly maintain the bearings inside its space-constrained doors, the customer must completely disassemble the door and linear unit to replace the bearings every three months
Thomson Solution: A design incorporating a two-piece aluminum bracket and split bearing for easier installation and no need to disassemble the entire linear unit
Result: The customer has been able to install the bearings more quickly without the need to disassemble the unit, thereby reducing maintenance time by 50%
