Design and Theory

A device that provides guidance for an item traveling in a linear direction is a linear guide.  Ball bushing bearings, roundWay bearings or plain bushings assembled on round shafts are called "round rail linear guides".  Round rail linear guides can be end supported or continuously supported.

End Supported

End supported round rail linear guides are for use as gantry style or ‘bridge’ applications.

End supported come styles:
  • Standard
  • Twin shaft web

Continuously Supported

Continuously supported linear guides are best for applications with concerns for shaft deflection or that have high loads.  Unlimited travel lengths are possible without concerns for machined reference edges or butt joint alignment.
Continuously supported styles:
  • Standard
  • Side mounted
  • Dual shaft
