IP ratings stand for International Protection code ratings.  The IP rating is a measure of how well an item protects itself from dust and liquid ingress.

IP rating meaning

The rating is made up of two numbers.  See the table below for the breakdown. The meaning of the first number is in the first column, and the meaning for the second number is in the second column.

Examples IP rating Protection against IP45 Solid objects over 1.0 mm, Protected against low-pressure water jets< IP66 Dust-tight, Protected against powerful water jets (static/dynamic) IP67 Dust-tight, Protected against the effects of temporary immersion in water (static) IP69k Protected against high pressure and temperature water jets (static)
