Design and Theory

The two main drive designs for linear systems are:
  • Screw drive
  • Belt drive
Both have their own benefits.

Screw Drive

Screw drives benefits include:
  • High thrust capacity - up to12 kN
  • High repeatability - up to 0.005 mm
  • High stiffness
Used in demanding positioning applications.
Screw drive units have the drive shaft coming out the end of the unit.

Belt Drive

Belt drive benefits include:
  • High speed, up to 10 m/s
  • High acceleration, up to 40 m/s2
Used in high throughput, high-speed transport applications.
Belt drive units have the drive shaft coming out of the side of the unit.
